Blog #3

Throughout the whole book Bryan goes through the loss of his sister Michelle. His whole family was devistated and depressed because of the death but I think that Bryan was taking it the worst. He was the most closest to his sister. Michelle protected Bryan from his father and taught him a lot. One of the things that Michelle taught him was to make the perfect cut. Once Michelle died he started cutting himself even more because he thought that his parents blamed him for his sisters accident and they loved her more then they loved him. One night Bryan couldn't take anymore of his fathers criticism and his mother being protective of him so he went up to his room and attempted to kill himself.

After he woke up in the hospital he had to go to therapy everyday. His father went away on a sabatical because him and Bryan's mother weren't getting along anymore. The first couple weeks after he woke up, he didn't want to have any outside contact with the people he knew except for Dr.Spahic but after awhile he finally decided to let his mother visit. When he had acouple visits with his mother he was free to go home. He continued to have his weekly visits with Dr.Spahic and he slowly began to get better. He was almost back to his normal, healthy self then he finally made the move to be completely happy. He took apart the back of his sister's old quitar and read the note that she had left him. After reading the note, he wrote one himself, but to his mother. This note was explaining what exactly happened the night of his sister's death. He gave his mother both of the notes and they sat together in the kitchen, crying and beginning to get their relationship back.

I think that this outcome was positive because even though it took Bryan going to the hospital for attempt to suicide and his father leaving, he was able to reconnect with his mother and get his life back on track.

Do you think that Bryan's father was the source of all of his problems or do you think that he thought up the problems on his own?Why do you think this?

  1. I do think that Bryan's father was the source of all his problems because his dad would make him feel worthless and upset due to all the criticism. After his dad left, he was able to control his feelings and talk to his mom about his sisters death. This makes me truly think that his dad was the source of his problem.

  2. I also think that his dad was the source of the problem because he would never talk about his sisters death openly with anyone and after his dad left he was able to do that. He was also able to have more of a control of what he was doing and his feelings.
